Fangakima (Port Maurelle), Vava’u, Kingdom of Tonga 18d 41.936′ S, 174d 01.828′ W

Hello Everyone,

We left at the crack of dawn and had good wind for our sail to Vava’u.  We had to keep moving to reach our anchorage at Fangakima before dark, so we turned the motor on a couple of times to help out the sails.  We arrived just before sunset, in time to find a safe place to anchor.

Caught a Mahi Mahi on the way, but are sorry to report that it got away before we could get it in the net. The happy ending was that when we reached the anchorage, one of the rally boats, Mediterraneo, announced on the VHF that they had a tuna to give away–they had caught more than they could eat.  So we traded some of the bananas we picked up on Ha’afeva with them for the tuna.

We filleted the tuna and put it in the fridge for later, as Avante had just received a big chunk of Wahoo fish from another boat, and they invited us to come over and help them eat it.

That’s enough action for one day.  Talk to you again tomorrow,

Sharon and Michael
